For prospective students and families, it is important for them to understand what Barat Academy is truly about. So we asked students some questions to give a clear picture what life at Barat Academy and Barat Prep is like. Here is what they said:

What is your favorite class at Barat?

I have a love for art and theology. In art class, we do many fun projects and learn about art, materials, and art history. I have always loved art and Ms. Bub is supportive of my drawings. She also gives me helpful tips! In theology, Mr. Schu always does a family feud question as a warmup, which is very entertaining! We do fun worksheets, presentations, and read from scripture, which is fun! I love all classes, but these are my favorites.

My favorite class at Barat Academy would have to be English. Although some parts can be difficult or taxing, I genuinely enjoy writing. I feel that at Barat Academy, I am receiving the best education to grow and learn as a young writer. The work we receive is as enjoyable as it is educational.

What is your favorite Barat event or activity?

I liked the talent show the most because it showed me what people can do the best and that everyone has a wide variety of talents about which they are passionate.

My favorite Barat event this year is the bonfire. We were able to have upbeat music compiled through the student body's recommendations, eat s'mores, and drink hot chocolate. We enjoyed the time we had together as both friends and as a community.

I thought that the all school bonfire was probably my favorite because I was able to engage more with Barat activities, get to know more people, and to have fun as well.

What is service learning?

1204652.jpg

A time when we learn about service and the problems that face the world. We also meet people who work to solve these problems.

- Aaron Padua (7th Grade)

Service learning is when we use our time at Barat to help our community love, learn, serve, build, and grow.

- Lucy Albers (10th Grade)

1204639.jpg

Service learning is when you take an educational approach on helping your community. We learned a lot about service and how we can help. We also had some awesome visitors from many places! We participated in some activities and we learned so much. Service learning is so important and it was amazing to find out about it.

What are the advantages to small class sizes?

1204696.JPG

I enjoy the smaller class size. It helps teachers teach in an individualized technique, where each student can learn and grow on their pace.

- Isabelle Cox (10th Grade)

You can get study guides and homework done in class because the teacher has time for you. Small classes are fun because you get to know each person inside and out and know what their talents are.

- Hannah Colabianchi (12th Grade)

How much time do you spend on homework a night?

1204279.jpg

It kind of depends on the amount but maybe 1 hour at the most unless I have a test, then it turns into 2 hours studying.

- Duncan Brown (10th Grade)

1204655.jpg

I typically would spend 30minutes- 1 hour on homework in a night. If it is a long assignment, I spend a few days working for a bit of time each day.

- Aiden Padua (6th Grade)

How has Barat made you a better young man or woman?

1204384.JPG

Barat has made me a better young man because it has taught me to put full faith in God and to always believe that there is a plan for me. This school has brought me closer to God in a way I never could have been without Barat.

- Cole Wilson (12th Grade)

Barat has made me more mature and mindful. Also, Barat makes me feel more welcomed than another school I've been to.

- Ava Miller (8th Grade)

Barat Academy offers such a range of opportunities that help me grow. Each teacher knows me, my strengths, and my weaknesses. I feel that at another school, I wouldn't receive the same level of personal help. Barat has truly helped me become the best version of myself.

- Isabelle Cox (10th Grade)

Barat taught me how to be more independent, and helped me make myself feel more worthy as a person. At the beginning of last year, I was in a really tough spot because I didn't believe I was capable of pretty much anything. But the teachers here at Barat showed me that I should have more faith in myself because I have so much untapped potential. Everyone has that same spectacular potential hidden deep within them, but they don't see themselves as capable. They are out shined by people who are praised because they show their potential, take advantage of their potential, or they find their potential. I know this is still something I need to work on, feeling more confident in myself and showing my potential, but this has definitely improved since my coming to Barat. I also made plenty of friends which I did not expect at all. I thought no one would like me, but it has been exactly the opposite!
