Dress uniforms are required
Each year at this time agencies and organizations contact schools concerning their needs for food and supplies. The Barat Academy community embraces the opportunity to respond to this need.
The Christmas Basket Liturgy at Barat is a tradition. Each family is asked to provide a basket of food to be given to the poor.
The practice of preparing a food basket for the needy at Christmas is an honor and a serious responsibility.
Here are a few suggestions that may be helpful in making this wonderful tradition a family project:
- Talk about preparing a food basket as a family, and decide how each one in the family can have a part in the project.
- Ask each one to contribute some personal money to pay for the groceries.
- Invite the entire family to go to the grocery store to purchase items for the basket.
- Pray as a family for those who will receive your food basket.
The tradition of preparing a food basket can be as creative as you want.
The custom should include a decorated basket or box. Plastic laundry baskets make great containers for holding and transporting food items. The food basket may include staples such as rice, potatoes, noodles, canned vegetables, dessert, candy, toys etc. A FROZEN turkey or ham is greatly appreciated. A gift certificate for a turkey or ham can be substituted for an actual turkey or ham. Whatever your family would like to contribute for a Christmas meal for a family of 4 to 6 people will be wonderful. Please do not include any alcohol, or perishable items that need immediate refrigeration.
Baskets are to be delivered to Barat Academy on Thursday, December 18 between 7:00 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. A group of adults and students will be waiting outside to assist.
